Colette Warning

December 18, 2001
Colette of Morris, IL had her surgery April 9, 2001 and has
lost 101 pounds. Colette says she feels comfortable in her
own skin. She now does things with the family that she
never did before. Her children can fit their arms around her
when they hug her. Her 15 year old son like to pick her up
now, just for the fun of it. And needless to say, her
husband is very pleased. Even though there is "hanging
skin" he doesn't see it. Colette started at 270 pounds
and 5'6. She is now 169 pounds. She is so happy to share her
success with us. Send congratulations to Colette at whoope@juno.com

December 20, 2001
Patty of West Sunbury, PA had open RNY surgery on June 8th,
2001 and has lost 104 pounds. Patty says this surgery
has saved her life. It is the greatest thing she has
ever done for herself. She made it through a whole day
of Christmas shopping this year and still had energy at the
end of the night!!! She still has about 50 pounds to
lose but if she didn't lose anymore she says it would be ok.
Patty has dropped 10 clothing sizes and thinks she looks
great, and so do all her friends. But she intends to
continue exercising and eating right to reach her goal.
Patty hopes to reach it by June, her anniversary. Send Patty
congratulations at grneydoll@aol.com

Karen Davis
|
December 20, 2001
Karen Davis of Easton, PA had open RNY surgery on July 9,
2001 and has lost 100 pounds. Karen says, "The
surgery has improved so many aspects of my life that the
list would be too long here. The biggest issue for me
started last April as I teetered near 300 pounds. I was
becoming increasingly fearful, yes terrified of my future
health. My mother's side of the family are all morbidly
obese and not a nice picture for my future. At 38
years old I was much too young to give up on my life by
killing myself with food. I had heard of gastric bypass but
had rejected the idea of surgically manipulating my body to
lose weight. When I put on another 10 pounds I decided
to investigate. Shortly after I made my decision my
brother was diagnosed with Type 11diabetes. I knew I
had made the right decision for myself. The biggest
difference is that I now have a future and one full of
health and vitality. I am not worried about diabetes,
high cholesterol or high blood pressure because of poor
eating habits and obesity. I'm not done yet, I still
have 70 pounds to go but I have reclaimed my healthy future
and that feels so good. And thank you Barbara for being a
source of inspiration and comfort on the journey! Send
congratulations to Karen at km-davis@rcn.com

Mary Ellen Webb
|
November 26, 2001
Mary Ellen of Fairfax, VA had open RNY surgery on May 2,
2001 and has lost 111 pounds. Mary Ellen says she can't
begin to count the number of ways this surgery has
improved her life and in fact has saved her life. She had
hypertension and had been diagnosed with diabetes just
prior to surgery, all before the age of 40. She had no
energy, and her exhaustion at even the thought of exercise
led to a vicious cycle (she couldn't lose weight without
exercise, she couldn't exercise because of her weight...)
Today her blood pressure is normal. She is off diabetes
medications, she has more energy than she had since her
teens, and she exercises at a gym 2 to 3 times a week. Her
entire relationship with food has changed, from emotional
eating to eating to live. She is so grateful for this
procedure and the effect it's had on her life, and for her
supportive family and friends. Send Mary Ellen your best

November 25, 2001
Rita of Severn, MD had a resectional gastric bypass on May
9, 2001 and has lost 110 pounds. Rita says that the
surgery has made a huge difference in her life.
There is no comparison to before the surgery. Rita says
she was a huge blimp who couldn't walk, talk and breathe
at the same time. Life was a huge struggle at times.
Her arthritis was extremely painful and added greatly to
her misery. She had to check out not only chair size
but its sturdiness before sitting down and she could stand
for just a short period of time. She resorted to
shopping on the internet because she couldn't get around
physically.. How she made it to work every day she
does not know. Now, she is on less medications in general,
her blood pressure and cholesterol are down, and her
arthritis pain and mobility are greatly improved. Now she
is happy all the time and so full of life and great
expectations. She has never regretted her decision
to have the surgery for a moment and revels in the
miracles in her life now. It's been a wonderful ride
and she would do it again in a heartbeat. Send Rita your

Sherrie of Elizabeth, PA had lap RNY surgery performed by
my surgeon Dr. Phil Schauer on Dec. 4, 2000 and has lost
100 pounds. Sherrie says that this surgery is
life-changing! She could not have imagined the
difference in how she feels - physically, mentally, and
emotionally! If she catches a glimpse of herself in
the mirror, she is shocked. She never looked in a mirror
100 pounds ago. She is so much more sure of herself.
She actually feels younger. Before, her legs hurt,
her feet hurt, everything hurt. She feels that this
surgery has freed her from an addicted to food.
Prior to surgery, she was afraid that she would miss food.
But she's actually enjoying food more now - just much less
of it. Someone at work said to her just today,
"I bet you're really proud of yourself!"
Guess what? She is! Send your best to Sherrie

Linda Werner
|
Oct. 17, 2001
Linda of Pittsburgh, PA had her RNY surgery on April 19,
2001 and has lost 100 pounds. Linda says that now
she is actually LIVING her life! She feels, looks, and is
the healthiest she has ever been. No more aches and pains,
no pills to mask those problems. She has come to realize
that her whole life, others have dictated how she felt
about her looks and size. When she was 15 years old she
was 5'9" and weighed 145 pounds. Everyone (including
clothing manufactures) told her she was "LARGE"
and BIG and that's what she believed, so she was
constantly on diets and yet continued to gain weight.
Today she's a little shorter (5'7") and after RNY
surgery weighs 165 pounds. She wears a
"LARGE"....but when she looks in the mirror she
sees herself......a thin, slender, vibrant women. Her vow
is to see herself through her eyes, not society's. Send
best wishes to Linda at ljwerner@cheerful.com

Oct. 1, 2001
Melinda had open RNY surgery on Aug. 28, 1999 and has lost
170 pounds! Melinda says, "Where do I start to
explain to you how the surgery has made a difference in my
life??? Thanks to the surgery, I am practically a
different person. From the type of car I buy, to
flying without a seatbelt extender, to fitting through a
turnstile in a store, buying regular sized clothes rather
than mu mu's, being able to pick from 3/4 of a store
rather than 1/4 of the back of the store that is
designated for "larger ladies" and so many other
wonderful changes in my life too many to list. Not
only did the surgery literally save my life by the
positive impact to my health, my relationship with my
husband, my friends and family is deeper than before. I'm
able to enjoy those I love rather than thinking about what
I'm going to eat next. There have been bumps in the road
along the way. Every road has a few bumps though.
Anything worth having is worth enduring a few small
things. I would have this surgery once a year if I
had to in order to keep the life that I now enjoy, thanks
to the surgery." Send congratulations to

Oct. 6, 2001
Gail of Millinocket, ME had her RNY surgery on Oct. 16,
2000 and has lost 111 pounds. Gale says the surgery has
made such a drastic change in her life. She is 60
years old and feels young again for the first time in 30
years. Gale had to have had both knees replaced, and had
type 2 diabetes, which she no longer takes medication for.
She was on 4 pills a day before surgery and could only
walk a few feet. Now she walks over 2 miles at a time and
goes to an exercise club and works out a few days a week.
She is off all blood pressure, stomach acid, and arthritis
medication. She feels like she has been reborn and she
intends to take every advantage of it. Gale can't
thank God and this wonderful surgery enough for giving her
a new life. Send Gale your best at fgmanzo@kai.net

K. of Pell City, AL had lap RNY surgery on Dec. 28, 2000
and has lost 102 pounds. K says the surgery has given her
life back to her. She has been diabetic for 15 years and
now she has normal blood sugar readings. She can do things
she hasn't been able to do in years. She can ride the
rides at Six Flags without worrying that she won't be able
to fit in the seats, go to dinner and sit in a booth
instead of looking for the first table as far away from
other people eating so she won't feel like they are
watching to see how much she eats. She buys clothes
in the misses and jr's departments knowing that people
aren't wondering why she's looking at those size clothes
when she couldn't possibly fit in them. She's no longer
embarrassed to go to her child's school because the kids
are saying to him,"Wow, your mom is FAT!" and
having him make excuses for her weight. This surgery has
been a blessing for her and she would do it over again in
less than a heartbeat. Rejoice with K at FACESWLSRECIPES@AOL.COM

Oct. 6, 2001
Marla of Baden, PA had open RNY surgery performed by Dr.
David Schumacher on May 31, 2001 and has lost 100 pounds.
Marla says her life will never be the same! She has
so much more energy. Marla is so excited to be able
to go to the store and buy new smaller clothes. She
went to a jewelry store recently and was able to put a
ring on right out of the case to see what it would
actually look like on her finger. Marla and her husband
have joined a gym and are working out together to firm up
what she says are her flabby thighs. God has truly been
good to her and she can't wait to loose the last 50
pounds. Email

Rhonda of Weeksbury, KY had open RNY surgery on July 19th,
2000 and has lost 128 pounds. Rhonda says the
surgery gave her life back!!!! For the first time in
many, many years, she enjoys everyday to its fullest.
Although her husband swears that her weight never mattered
to him she was ashamed for him and their marriage was
suffering for that reason. They loved each other,
but we were no longer close. She kept him, and
everyone else for that matter, at such a distance. Rhonda
and her husband are so close now and happier than she
could have ever imagined. They go out dancing,
vacation at the beach, take long walks and just enjoy
being together. Her kids are happy to introduce her
to their friends again. She can crawl on the floor
alongside her baby granddaughter, and she no longer lies
awake at night in sheer agony because her back and knees
are literally throbbing with pain. She can run, she can
shave her ankles, and she can shop at regular clothing
stores again. The list is just endless! Congratulate
Rhonda at rgtackett@tiusa.net
